Doctor Nurse

I’m sure everyone has experienced this – you’re driving, great song gets played on the radio, you bob your head and sing along… and then the radio deejay casually doesn’t mention the name of the song, or the band. This happened to my roommate and I about a week ago. All we remembered was that it was on KSCU and some of the lyrics of the song. She went on this wild goose chase and googled up lines from the song. Voila, one result. The lyrics of the song on a post at suicidegirls.com and nothing else – whoever posted it didn’t mention the title of the song, or the artist. At this point, I told her it was time to give up.

Fortunately, she didn’t. She contacted KSCU but their list showed an 11 minute gap between one song and the other with our “mystery song” conspicuously missing. Apparently, if the artist isn’t available on Amazon.com, (and therefore, probably unsigned) they don’t show up on the online playlist. So, no luck there. And then she tried googling the lyrics again – but this time, google had removed the link! Luckily, she bookmarked it and managed to retrieve the full lyrics that way and finally, finally, she asked her friend Greg to help her out. BAM! – Doctor Nurse. Music has never sounded sweeter than when found like this.

Anyways, KSCU plays stuff from local bands, and Doctor Nurse happens to be one of them. The song in question that damned well almost drove my roommate mad is called Phantom Lights, but it’s not available on the band’s MySpace. However, they do have a good sampling of their stuff, and from what I’ve heard so far, they are a bit Pixies meets Beta Band-ish. I’d definitely recommend everyone check out Doctor Nurse, because they will probably be the next big thing soon.

They’re playing at Blank Club on January 6th. If you are in the San Jose area, I expect to see you there!

The mysterious lyrics to Phantom Lights:

Tall buildings at night’s a terrible place for conversation
not to mention that if you are scared of heights.
We sat there dropping our dimes upon passers by no rules to the game
they don’t even notice half the time.

Haunt the dreams of someone nice
I’m desperately hoping to find
what nobody wants to know.

Sleep nights in an empty plane
Sail off in a frozen boat
Fly south on your golden wings
Speak soft with your broken throat

Calm seas, phantom lights
Aren’t you supposed to be leaving now?

Once, when I was young, I entered a maze filled with butterflies
I still have the scars where they ravaged my eyes
We’ll bury their skins in the hills, they’ll turn in to graves, and crumble in tombs
It’s so lovely to watch all the flowers die.

Haunt the dreams of somebody nice
I’m desperately hoping to find
what nobody wants to know.

Sleep nights in an empty plane
Sail off in a frozen boat
Fly south on your golden wings
Speak soft with your broken throat

Calm seas, phantom lights
Aren’t you supposed to be leaving now?

“Summertime’s making me lazy”, I heard you complain, That the “sun was too bright”
Your vampire skin won’t burst into flames
I’m sorry if I made a mess of your wedding dress, it’s long past it’s prime
I can drink to forget if your serious.

Haunt the dreams of someone nice
I’m desperately hoping to find
what nobody wants to know.

Sleep nights in an empty plane
Sail off in a frozen boat
Fly south on your golden wings
Speak soft with your broken throat

Calm seas, phantom lights
Aren’t you supposed to be leaving now?

Here’s where you can listen to the song: http://nerdtorious.com/2009/10/08/doctors-note/ And yes, very Beta Band ish!

You didn’t mention the suicidegirls blogger is actually Doctor Nurse himself! And I kept cursing the blogger for not posting the band name or title of song… oh how I feel so foolish now. We found out it was Doctor Nurse by stalking the blog and watching his online videos where he talked about various bands he’s in.

Oh, Internet. I love how you hone my stalking skills.

Hahah… I think I left that detail out in case he didn’t want to be known as a Suicide Girls devotee.

Thanks for the link, btw. See you in the morning!
